Modern and contemporary vanity lights are a tasteful way to add flair to your bathroom. Not only are these lights highly stylish, but they are also practical with their specialized lighting temperatures, directional options, and multiple sizes. Since both contemporary and modern bathroom vanity lights focus on sleek design and practical technology, they are ideally suited to work within any bathroom.
Modern bathroom vanity lights tend to showcase clean-cut lines and geometric shapes as two key elements of their design. They tend to utilize timeless colors and materials like various metals (metallic and matte finishes), black, white, grey, and beige to create fixtures that express current design trends and age well with the passage of time.
Modern vanity lights come in many shapes, sizes, and forms. Some lights are mounted above a bathroom mirror while others may be used to the sides as wall sconces. When you choose the modern vanity light that is suited for you, first consider where you will place the light(s). Then, determine the brightness of light(s), light temperature, and dispersal of light that will create the most practical space possible. Some popular options for these lights include modern LED vanity lights, which are known for their energy savings, long lives, and appealing light temperatures.
Modern vanity lights are often complemented by other modern bathroom lighting fixtures such as ceiling lights or recessed lights. When you are looking to pair other fixtures with your vanity lights, look for similarities through the lights’ shapes, finishes, size, and general aesthetic. That way, your room’s lighting plan will create one cohesive style.
Modern and contemporary styles are often blended with other branches of interior design. Therefore, when you are choosing a modern vanity light, look at options like mid century modern vanity lights, modern farmhouse vanity lights, or modern boho lights. If your vanity light is placed above your bathroom mirror, it should be between 75 and 80 inches from the floor. If you are using wall sconce vanity lights, then your lights should be positioned about 60” from the floor (roughly eye-level). The lights should also be hung about 28” apart from one another.
Fixtures that have one light and are placed above the mirror should be about a third of the mirror’s width. However, if you are using a multi-light fixture or another style that uses horizontal light bars, your light can extend past the edges of the mirror. The light should never be longer than the vanity itself though, as that will create visual imbalance.
Both options are appropriate depending on what you want to use the lights for. Upward facing lights are excellent at casting and creating ambiance, but downward lights are better for task lighting. Ultimately, you must look at your bathroom’s entire lighting plan to determine what function you need your vanity lights to serve.
