Hinkley Lighting’s story is a story of family. Back in 1922, Phil Hinkley founded the company as a small residential outdoor lantern company. When he struggled with illness, he sold half his share to traveling salesman Stanley Wedemer, who later purchased the other half for full ownership. 32 years later, Stanley’s grandson Rick began his career at Hinkley Lighting and became the company’s 3rd CEO. Now, all three of his children play key roles in the company, with his son Jess becoming the company’s president in 2015.
As Hinkley Lighting continues to thrive, the whole family has not lost sight of how special it is to have a third and fourth generation work together to instill a family culture at Hinkley. Rick Wedemer publicly states that that is one of his most valued accomplishments. However, the lights they produce are also worthy of praise as they exemplify quality craftsmanship and design.
Hinkley doesn’t necessarily have highly iconic, famous designers. Instead, they use their in-house designers to stick with the company’s standards for quality and design. However, they do work closely with interior designers and other sorts of designers to meet practical needs and fill in the gaps where other lighting companies may be lacking in style and function.
Because of their long history in the lighting world, Hinkley has had plenty of time to diversify the lighting fixtures they offer both from a style perspective and from a literal perspective. They design both indoor and outdoor lights, and their outdoor lights include types like outdoor wall lights, pendant lights, chandeliers, post lights, and landscape lights. Among their indoor collections, Hinkley designs and creates vanity lights, chandeliers, pendant lights, wall sconces, and flush mounts.
