Lightopia was founded in Laguna Beach, California by brothers Ken and Lawrence Vick. Laguna Beach is well known for its appreciation of fine art, architecture, and sustainable living. Lightopia, sharing those interests, launched there in 2006 with a small sandy 1,000 square foot showroom. We quickly became involved in design projects throughout Orange County and Los Angeles.
Our website was launched in 2008 to give customers and trade partners increased access to products and ideas - and an overall better shopping experience.
In 2012, Lightopia expanded north to Los Angeles county with the opening of its Manhattan Beach showroom. The South Bay’s rapid development helped push Lightopia to establish its premier architectural lighting design service.
2016 was a transition year as the flagship Laguna Beach home was moved to the new Soco Design Center in Costa Mesa, and in 2018, we secured our first storage warehouse in order to better service customer demands and delivery for both the Southern California and US market.
2019 brought the launch of our latest venture further into Los Angeles with the opening of a Santa Monica showroom located in the heart of Silicon Beach.
At the beginning of 2022, we were acquired by Rugs Direct Holdings, LLC. Together, Rugs Direct and Lightopia are well-positioned to be a leader in the mid- to high-end home furnishings market. The combined company has an extensive product catalog of over 200 partner brands and strong combined sales, marketing, merchandising and technology capabilities to better meet our customer’s needs.
