The Hudson Valley story begins with founder David Littman, who knew from a young age how beautiful surroundings could positively impact everyday life. He and his mother had a love for antiques and the quality behind them, which inspired him to have an eye for beautifully designed and crafted lights.
However, lighting ran in the family even before David began Hudson Valley Lighting. His grandfather was greatly inspired by the introduction of fluorescent lighting to mainstream building industries at the New York World’s Fair and began to study lighting. David eventually had an apprenticeship in the lighting industry in his father’s commercial lighting factory, and although he attended college for a different major, he was drawn back to lighting and started his business: Hudson Valley Lighting.
The Hudson Valley Lighting Group includes many talented designers who each have their own speciality. Mark D. Sikes hails from Los Angeles, California, and he mixes American and European design to create pieces fitting for the New Traditional Style. Designer Becki Owens also hails from California, but her designs lean into a lighter feminine style and modern boho. Finally, Kelley Behun has her own style that leans into contemporary artistry. These are only three of their designers, and through them, you can see Hudson Valley’s approach to bringing in experts and different designers to create unique lights.
Aside from their partnerships with those individuals, Hudson Valley Lighting also has partnerships with designers like Mitzi, Troy Lighting, and Corbett Lighting. These groups make up the Hudson Valley Lighting Group - a group that believes lighting can elevate spaces and enrich people’s lives through forward design.
Because of the company’s passion for creating lighting that improves quality of life and design, they design lights for a multitude of rooms. Some of their favorite types of light include their vanity lights, wall sconces, pendant lights, chandeliers, and flush mounts. However, they also create table lamps, floor lamps, and desk lamps so you can fully customize and optimize your space.
Throughout all their lights, they have some popular collections like Berton, Buckingham, Milford, Mill Valley, and many others. Each collection takes inspiration from the past but fits into a modern landscape with its focus being on transcendent modern styles. Each piece of lighting in a collection is both different from the other lights and similar enough to fit together in one room, or you can mix and match collections to create your signature style.
Because of founder David’s deep love of antiques, his lighting company is really known for taking inspiration from vintage design and craftsmanship, but they don’t leave it at that. Instead, they take those aspects and bring them into the modern day to add classic sophistication and unique style.
Hudson Valley Lighting is currently Newburgh, New York, which has been its home from the very start. They work with their own designers here to reproduce classic lighting fixtures and new, modern lights.
