The story of Palecek Lighting has extremely humble beginnings. Company founder Allan Palecek is the son of a Kansas farmer and pilot for the US air force. More than 35 years ago, Allan began traveling the world in search of inspiration from basket-weaving traditions of Asia. He found the inspiration he sought and returned home to create products of natural, renewable materials like seagrass and rattan. He developed a loyal group of customers, an expanding product line, and a growing network of artisans to further the company and create more stunning home decor and lighting fixtures.
The Palecek story started with family, and it continues to follow that thread today. Allan’s son, Andrew T. Palecek, joined the managing team in 2002 and eventually became the company’s vice president. While the company continues to design and produce beautiful lighting, they also contribute philanthropically to many causes to improve the world around them.
Palecek may be the most infamous designer of the company, but there are plenty more who work with him and with each other to create unique, eco-friendly light fixtures. Though they often remain nameless, it is these “ordinary” people who are behind the natural designs and creation of Palecek’s lights.
Palecek designs lights for various different locations in and out of the home. Some of their favorite outdoor lights include chandeliers, pendant lights, wall lights, and lamps. As for their indoor lights, they have a plethora of favorites in pendants, chandeliers, wall sconces, and floor lamps.
Among Palecek’s most popular lighting collections there’s Point Dume, Augustine, Wisteria, Everly, and Green Oaks. These collections each feature a variety of different lighting types and sometimes offer different color options, giving you the option to utilize a singular collection for the entire room or mix and match to create your own aesthetic.
Aside from their stunning light fixtures, Palecek is known for being eco-friendly and eco-conscious. They realize that the lighting industry is very resource-intensive, and so they take extra care in using abundant, quickly renewable materials like rattan, seagrass, and abaca. Any wood that they use primarily comes from plantation grown woods, and they also use water-based finishes in their line of paintable products to better care for the world and their customers.
As part of their philanthropy, Palecek also invests in the ongoing restoration of the Philippines and sustaining the craftsmanship from indigenous tribes by contributing to educational programs to preserve those weaving techniques and traditions.
Palecek has had its business in the San Francisco bay area for over 35 years. Their domestic manufacturing headquarters is a large employer for the town of Richmond, California, which is key to their philosophy of providing for their community. Aside from this base, they also have eight national showrooms around the country.
