What is The Feiss Lighting Story?

Today, Feiss Lighting is a third-generation family owned business based in the Bronx, New York. However, the company had quite a journey to becoming the well known designer it is today. The story begins with Rose Feiss, the mother of the company’s namesake Murray Feiss. She began a small cottage-industry lampshade manufacturing business that eventually grew into a larger lamp company. When Rose and family immigrated to the Bronx, they fully believed in the American dream and worked hard at establishing a name for themselves.

During this time however, World War II was ongoing, and Rose’s son Murray enlisted in the US Navy. Rose continued to craft lampshades and created a small business that soon needed to move to a larger headquarters. After his time in the Navy and studying marketing at New York University, Murray joined the family business and their growth continued.

In the time since Murray joined the family business, they expanded from creating lampshades to lighting fixtures. He designed the fixtures with the principle that all their lighting types should be versatile enough to work throughout the entire home and the collections should pair well with one another. That philosophy carries over today as Murray and the company’s design team focus on creating collections that work within modern homes and fit into the company’s established aesthetic.

The most iconic designer from Feiss Lighting is Murray Feiss, who took the business to new heights with his design of lighting fixtures. Today, Feiss Lighting has its own team of award-winning industrial, graphic, and interior designers to create each of their fixtures. True to the company’s origins and heart, Feiss Lighting is still based in the Bronx, New York. They feature a 5,000 square foot lighting showroom at its corporate headquarters and have showrooms in High Point, North Carolina and Dallas, Texas.
